Snapped 8-5-2012
This is Megan, my great-niece. Look at that background: open dishwasher, full trash cans in the pull-out cabinet, dirty dishes on the counter and those are my baked beans (to the right of Megan’s head) in that circa 1970 Corningware dish. This photo captures all the necessary mess that goes on behind the scenes at a large gathering, but who needs this stuff in their memory bank?
Despite the background, doesn’t she look fetching in her pretty dress and barrette? This was taken at a family party last week, and the house was buzzing with activity and celebration. Attempting to capture the moment, I snapped a lot of shots, but how much did I want to capture the mess of it all? Not so much. Still, many of my photos preserved what I wanted most to remember. The important thing here is that we had a fantastic time with four generations under one roof. Remember not to get so caught up in documenting everything that you forget to enjoy the actual moment.
